Fran Wachter
Fran Wachter is a retired middle school science teacher from Creal Springs. She taught science 6-8 grade, social studies 6-7 and art 6-8. She has won several awards, including the Disney’s Planet Challenge National Grand Prize, Exxon-Mobil Science Teacher of the Year, NSF Heart GK-12 Teacher Fellowship and was an Illinois State finalist to the prestigious PAEMST Award. She is also a National Board-Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence Science. She has written several grants and has received funding from The Nature Conservancy, American Chemistry Society, Marion Unit #2 Foundation, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the Southeastern Illinois Electric Cooperative. She joined the SIUC Noyce- A Community of Problem Solvers MTF Program in 2012 and acted as an educational consultant and board member to the Friends of the Cache River Watershed Organization. She is currently a member of the Teacher Advisory Board to the new SIUC Noyce- River Region Sustainability MTF Program.
